 Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin, sterile needles into specific points throughout the body.  These needles improve the strength and flow of Qi and lead the body to heal itself naturally.

The origins of Acupuncture date back further than 3,000 years.  It is a system based on the belief that the natural state of being is one of balance.  This balance is achieved when Qi (pronounced "chee" and indicating our vital life force) flows smoothly throughout the meridian systems of the body.  These meridian systems are paired with their respective organ systems and work synergistically to nourish our bodies inside and out.  There are hundreds of Acupuncture points along these meridians that can be stimulated to balance the flow of Qi, whether there is insufficiency, excess or stagnation.

Acupuncture is relatively painless when done by a skilled practitioner trained in the classical ways of TCM.  You may feel a slight pinching sensation or a residual aching feeling, but these are normal.  If at any time the needles become uncomfortable, they may be removed.

What can Acupuncture treat?

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is used in combination with Acupuncture to achieve a greater state of healing and full body relaxation.

Moxibustion involves the burning of a floss like herb called Moxa (Mugwort or Artemisia Vulgaris) directly on, or over top of the skin at specific Acupuncture points.  It gives a very deep sensation of heat, and in effect puts heat back into the body. There are various ways in which Moxibustion is used, including: direct scarring moxibustion, heat perception moxibustion, needle warming moxibustion, indirect stick moxibustion, and moxibustion burned atop a mound of salt or a slice of ginger or garlic.
